Marines who plan to be in Washington, D.C. for Memorial Day weekend won’t want to miss the parade downtown on Monday, May 31.
This year’s National Memorial Day Parade, touted by organizers as the largest Memorial Day parade in the nation, will pay special tribute to the Marine Corps.
Retired Gen. Peter Pace, the only Marine to serve as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will lead the tribute in his temporary role for the day as parade Grand Marshal.
Pro-military dudes like Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna will be there, along with former Marine drill instructor and actor R. Lee Ermey. Edith Shain, the nurse from the famous World War II “V-J Day in Times Square” kiss photograph and R.V. Burgin, the Marine Corps veteran portrayed in the HBO miniseries, The Pacific, will also be there.
But the really big names at the parade will be those of the thousands of current and retired Marines who go there with their friends, families, motorcycles, flags and coolers.
A pre-parade ceremony begins at 1:15 p.m. and the parade itself begins at 2 p.m. on Constitution Avenue, N.W. between 7th and 17th Streets, N.W.
The parade is founded and organized by the American Veterans Center, a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of military personnel.

At a time of Focus on helping Armed Forces successfully transition into life in the US, it’s tragic that R. Lee Ermey would Ridicule the patient in the widely viewed GEICO ad
at a time of increased suicide and PTSD.
Ermey should STOP these negative ads and the “SHELL
SHOCK” Pistacio ads. These KEEP Marines and needed treat-
ment. It doesn’t take a genius.
All his good is undone by HIS Terrible Commercials.
