Remembering Capt. Josh Meadows, a MARSOC warrior

Capt. Joshua Meadows was killed in Afghanistan a year ago during combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan, four months after becoming a member of 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion.

Capt. Josua Meadows died in Afghanistan Sept. 5, 2009

When he died on Sept. 5, 2009, he and his wife, Angela, were expecting their first child.
Next week, Meadows will be remembered and honored by his fellow operators on a 500-mile bicycle ride from Duluth, Ga., to MARSOC headquarters at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
The ride, which begins Tuesday, has been carried out for the past three years by members of the Duluth Police Department and other local police and fire departments in Georgia who have teamed up with Special Operations Forces from each of the services to honor one of their fallen.
It’s called “Honor Ride,” and the members of 1st MSOB have raised enough money to donate a bicycle emblazoned with the names of the 9 MARSOC Marines who have been killed in action.
At the end of the ride, the custom bicycle will be donated to the MARSOC command, and, in a ceremony at the MARSOC Fallen Warriors Memorial, a color battle streamer will be placed on the Honor Ride guidon by MARSOC commander Maj. Gen. Paul E. Lefebvre.
