It turns out having your pets spayed and neutered isn’t the only cause close to Bob Barker’s heart.
The 87-year-old longtime host of “The Price Is Right” announced today that he will donate $2 million to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, a nonprofit that provides assistance to injured members of the armed forces and their families. He is scheduled to present a check tomorrow in Los Angeles, and will be joined by retired Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Mike Myatt.

Barker was a Navy fighter pilot in World War II. In a news release, he says he hopes his donation will inspire others to give, and “commit to making sure that not one young Marine, sailor, airman and soldier or their family members are in need during their long-term recoveries.”
The Semper Fi Fund — whose logo shows a pair of strong hands cradling the Marines’ eagle, globe and anchor emblem — provides financial assistance for post-9/11 Marines and sailors, as well as soldiers, airmen and Coast Guardsmen injured while serving in support of Marine forces. Since its founding in 2004 by a Marine wife and registered nurse, the organization has awarded about 26,000 financial grants totaling more than $46 million.
Barker retired from a five-decade television career in 2007. He reportedly has donated millions of dollars over the years to animal rights causes, and is famous for signing off from each “Price” episode by reminding viewers to have their household pets sterilized.

Bob Barker is such a good man. I am so proud of him for all the things that he has done in the past and today for this donation to injuried marines.
When I returned from spending 13 months in sunny Viet Nam to El Toro, we were taken to see Barker as his guests on a TV game show taping. It was 1970 and Marines from Viet Nam were not very well liked, however Barker had us stand up and welcomed home by him. I knew then he didn’t give a shit what other people thought he thanked us for our service, and I knew then he had a soft spot in his heart for Marines. God Bless Him for standing up for what he believes, and puts his money where his heart is.
What a wonderful thing to do, and what a great role model for all of us. If you have an email address for Mr. Barker, I would love to write him personally. My husband was in the Marine Corps for 30 years and continues to help veterans today as a Veterans Services Officer in our county. So, I personally know what this huge contribution means to our Marines.
Thank you, Mr. Barker, for your service to our country during World War II, and for your continued devotion to our men and women in uniform.
Very respectfully,
Edie Gotard
