Marines can’t let their commander in chief have all the “Call Me Maybe” fun. The video montage of President Obama singing Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit is making some big Internet waves. But it’s looking like a van-full of Marines were on the “Call Me Maybe” case first. In a YouTube video posted the day before Obama’s breakout rendition starting making the rounds, some Marines were caught on camera dancing to the girly pop tune. So in case Katy Perry just wasn’t enough — check out this new Marine favorite. It definitely inspired these devil dogs to bust out some pretty sweet choreography.…

This former Marine was not having a good day at work. [HTML1] Illinois state Rep. Mike Bost was not happy Tuesday about the new pension reform proposal that hit the floor. So, looking like he was channeling one of his old drill instructors, Bost threw the bill at his colleagues and screamed at them. “I’m sick of it!” he yelled while his neighbor picked up papers that had fallen all over him. “These damn bills … that all the damn time, come out here at the last second. I’ve got to try to figure out how to vote for my…
Taylor Swift has answered the Marines’ call. The country singer phoned fallen Sgt. Wade Wilson’s family and said she wants to wear his dog tags in her next music video. Wilson was killed in combat on May 11 in Afghanistan. His friends, former corporals Josh Marreel and Spencer Walker, reached out to Swift and her fans in Wilson’s honor, because he was huge fan. Marreel made a YouTube shout-out to the singer asking Swift to think of her fan, his friend. Swift called Wilson’s mother to extend her sympathy and pray with her, Walker said. She also sent flowers to…
YouTube shout-outs to celebrities by Marines have become a popular way to attempt to get a famous date for the next Marine Corps ball. But the latest celeb shout-out is much different. Sgt. Wade “Willy” Wilson was killed in action May 11 in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Wilson was a 22-year-old anti-tank missileman assigned to Camp Pendleton’s 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. He was on his second deployment to Afghanistan — and was apparently a huge Taylor Swift fan. His friend, former…
Marines looking to appear a bit taller may just need to pick up their guns. Holding a gun could give the illusion of a boost in height and muscle mass, according to a new study by researchers at the University of California in Los Angeles. Participants were given photos of men’s hands holding various items. They were asked to judge the man’s height based on the photos. Those holding guns or large kitchen knives were conceptualized as more physically imposing — taller, with bigger muscles — than those holding more mundane items, like a paintbrush or caulking gun. The study,…
Feminist Naomi Wolf, author of “The Beauty Myth,” is calling Katy Perry’s new video a propaganda piece for the Marine Corps and has suggested her fans boycott the singer. Perry recorded the video for her new song “Part of Me” at Camp Pendleton, Calif. with the help of 40 female Marines. The video debuted March 21. Wolf posted the following comment about the video on her Facebook page four days later: Some have come to Wolf’s defense, including people who identify themselves as Iraq and…
Forget “The X-Files.” This is “The Afghanistan-Files.” A recently filed report on a UFO tracking website discusses an alleged sighting at Camp Leatherneck in Helmand province. The report, submitted Feb. 26 by an unknown individual, describes an event on or about Feb. 7, 2010, when seven equally spaced lights were spotted in the sky. Through the duration of the sighting, none of the lights appeared to move or change. The report states that the lights were at a high altitude and didn’t blink, move or make any noise. The witness was sitting in his office at the Marine logistics group…
Sgt. Gary Stein might be saying things about President Obama that a lot of Marines think, but some are saying he took it too far. Stein has come under fire for stating on Facebook that he wouldn’t follow certain orders given by his commander in chief. And Marines say Stein’s not alone in his disapproval. More anti-Obama talk is being heard in the workplace and new Military Times poll data shows declining approval among military service members for the president’s job as commander in chief. The Marine Corps depends its chain of command structure, especially in a time of war. …
